Bro. Paulus Hermann Moritz (1869-1942)

(Founder: Congregation of Missionary Brothers of St. Francis of Assisi)

Heymann Herman Moritz popularly known as Bro. Paulus Moritz travelled from Germany to India in 1895 to begin a pioneering missionary evangelization movement and went on to establish The Congregation of the Missionary Brothers of St Francis of Assisi (CMSF), an International Society of Religious Brothers in 1901.

He started missions all over India, guiding the brothers through many vicissitudes and storms for more than four decades. He was a man intoxicated with zeal, vision, and fervour for the mission. For him no sacrifice was too great, no effort too much and simplicity was his code word. He insisted that the Brothers preach by their example of a simple life, that they live in fraternal love. His motto- ‘as long as you look after the poor, God will look after you’- always echoes in the minds and actions of all the brothers of CMSF.  The mission continues to focus on the poor, using the Gospel as the mandate. It continually seeks to help those in need, without regard to race, creed, and nationality.

On November 19, 1942, Bro. Paulus left for his heavenly reward at the Mother House , Mumbai. Till his last, he professed his love for his Divine Master and encouraged his brothers to remain faithful to the Gospel of Lord Jesus Christ and to be ever faithful children of the Church.
